Our core mission is to connect people to each other and help them find a sense of meaning in their lives. We do this through a mix of community support meetings, connecting people to resources in their community and creating a sense of belonging.
Community Support Meetings
At MMAS, we offer a variety of community support meetings to aid in the recovery process. Our founder is a licensed SMART Recovery Facilitator who leads a MMAS meeting and a SMART meeting each week. Additionally, a team member conducts Recovery Dharma meetings weekly. For those seeking further assistance, we provide a list of resources for Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other community support groups available on our resources page.
Counselling and Support
While we are not licensed counselors, many of our staff has undergone training in suicide prevention and hold degrees in psychology and social services. If you require professional counseling, we recommend checking our resources page for a list of sliding scale and other counselors. However, we do have team members on call 24/7 to offer support, either remotely or in person if you are in the Calgary area.
Spiritual Support
At MMAS, we recognize that spiritual support can play a significant role in recovery for some individuals. We have formed partnerships with spiritual communities of various faiths, including Buddhism, Christianity, First Nations Elders, Islam, and Judaism. Our Spiritual Services Team is available to connect you with someone who can provide guidance in your faith of choice.
Sobriety Coach
Our licensed SMART Recovery facilitator also offers recovery coaching sessions focused on meaning and psychology, providing personal support to those in need. These sessions aim to help individuals find purpose in their lives by having someone who understands addiction listen and support them.
Community Engagement
We believe that community engagement is essential for recovery. At MMAS, we host community events, trips, and collaborate with other organizations, allowing members to volunteer their time and contribute to the community. We strive to create a sense of belonging through shared experiences and help our members develop social skills, enhanced by discounts on services from our partner organizations.
Discounts With Local Businesses
To promote self-care and skill development, we have partnered with numerous local businesses, offering our members discounts on various activities, including gym memberships and classes in cooking or crafting. For a complete list of vendor discounts, please visit our vendor page.
Therapy
While we do not have a licensed therapist on staff, we facilitate therapeutic programs such as music lessons, therapy animals, nature walks, mindfulness and meditation education, and guest speakers on diverse subjects. For a full list of therapeutic activities, please check our Vendors or Events pages.
